Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve Whisky (43%)
Nose: Clean, gentle aroma, too subtle for me to identify
Palate: That clean aroma covers the tongue, and while nothing stands out initially, I get mint and smoke!

Kingsbarns Doocot Whisky (46%)
Nose:
A lot - sweet is about all I can eloquate.
Palate:
Again, sweetness, surprising for how bright the dram. I'm used to darker colours from Sherry casks, but this is neither.
Nice but probably too complex for me. Too good to mix it, but there's plenty I can do that with.

Boulder Peated Malt American Single Malt Whiskey (46%)
Nose: Damp smoke - unusual, a distinct smell for a whisky
Palate: Earthy peat, a smooth caramel-y texture
I like this; sweet and smokey and not too strong.

Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt (46%)
Nose:
Caramac! OK, probably caramel, but it reminded me of opening the foil (old school) of a caramac, and the lovely whiff of sweetness. Sniffing some more, I'm getting salted caramel.
Palate: dry, vanilla, sweet, and the teeniest bit smokey.
Not as smooth as some of my favourite blends, but not bad.

Michter's US*1 Straight Rye (42.4%)
Notes:
Nose: Gentle for bourbon for me; familiar peppery spices
Palate: Dry, spicy, and anough flavour I can sip along with some water.

Never Say Die Barrel Strength Whiskey (Barrel No. 6) 53.2%
Notes:
Nose:
Fierce! I think my unrefined nose can't handle the rest of the aromas.
Palate:
Spicy, peppery but with a thick sweetness. Saving a horse with bourbon up the nose, compaigning against the "Bourbon tax" (thanks for nothing, Brexit!) there's quite the back story. And actually a bourbon, even though it's bottled in England.

Craigellachie 13 Year Old Bas-Armagnac Cask Finish
Notes:
Nose: Complex! Definitely not a classic Speyside, interesting! Fruit but not the spiced cake variety
Palate: Smokey hint, but not exactly "peaty". Gentle fruit taste. Not as light as other Speysides, but a nice sip.

Storyman Blended Scotch Whisky
Notes:
Nose: I started to notice aniseed, but I think this is the smokey, peppery mix.
Palate: Slightly peaty and a smooth caramel finish
I like this - I've not really enjoyed much that I've tried from Anandale, but this is a nice blend.

Lagavulin 8 Year Old
Notes:
Nose: Peaty
Palate: Peaty
A strong smoke for 8yo, and I might be having a bad day, but really all I can taste is the peat and strong alcohol.
